School is back in full swing, and this means that sixth year has pretty much taken over. For me, this has meant sacrificing my iPhone, because I got into a really bad habit of checking my youtube subscriptions while doing my homework in fifth year. This had to end, so this year I’ve gone back to basics and picked up a Samsung “block” that basically just calls and texts. Unfortunately, this means that as I have no iPod, I’ve been listening to much less music. When I have had the chance to listen to music, however, a few songs have been standing out. Not all of them are new songs, but they’re all good, in my humble opinion.
The Edge Acoustic-Tonight Alive
I already loved the original version of The Edge , but when I stumbled across this gem, I was even more amazed. Jenna’s voice is astounding, I literally got goosebumps the first time I heard the bridge. This is one I’m definitely loving!
Thirty Seconds to Mars- Up in the Air
I never really gave much time to Thirty Seconds to Mars, until this summer someone recommended this song and suddenly I was obsessed. I can’t believe I didn’t discover them before, they have so many good songs, but this would have to be my favourite.
Remember(Walking in the Sand)-The Shangri-Las
This song is everything I love about sixties music, and it never gets old. The Shangri-Las songs are so simple, yet catchy, and I never get sick of listening to this one.
I’m very picky about the rappers I listen to, but I do love a bit of Eminem. Rap God is so catchy, and I always marvel at how well the lyrics are written and how well the whole thing flows. Recently I’ve been listening to it loads, I just think its a really good one to play on full blast and (attempt) to sing along.
Black Widow- Iggy Azalea ft. Rita Ora
I don’t always love Rita Ora, but I think she’s good in this song and I do love a bit of Iggy. While it doesn’t fully live up to Fancy, I still find myself listening to it a lot at the moment.
You Sent Me Flying Live – Amy Winehouse
Amy’s been one of my fave’s for a while now, and I’ve known this song for ages, but I discovered this live version recently and I was blown away all over again. She was so talented, and this performance really shows it. Watching this makes me love her even more!
Bang Bang Live – Lady Gaga
I was a Gaga fan a few years ago – I loved The Fame Monster and Born this Way, but I never really got into Artpop the same way. I’ve also always said that she was too talented for the overproduced pop that Artpop was, that it almost hid her voice, and that she’d be better in jazz. I was so happy to find out about Cheek to Cheek during the week, and even happier that it was with none other than Tony Bennett. I’m obsessed! My favourite off the album is Bang Bang, and I think this performance really shows her vocal talents. This album has gotten quite a few negative reviews, but I really love it.
These are just some of the songs I love at the moment – I’d recommend listening to all of them.
Hopefully soon I’ll get more of a chance to find new music, I’m just so busy right now. If you have any recommendations, comment them below, I love listening to songs people have recommended.
