As one year comes to a close and another one begins, I thought I’d take this chance to reflect and mention a few of the bigger things that happened to me this year. I had a lot of amazing opportunities given to me this year, and experienced a lot of new things that have opened new doors for me. In the coming year, I hope that I get to experience many new things and that I learn a lot from these experiences.
The biggest change that happened for me in 2014 was that I took the plunge and started a blog. This was something I was interested in for a while, but it took me a while to take the initiative. Initially, I started itszoecoco.blogspot.com, but then I got my own domain zoecoco.com, which was a huge step forward. I expanded my blog a lot over the Summer, and I began to get opportunities that I never imagined I would. I attended the Warehouse Autumn Winter 14 Press Day in Dublin, in September, and I took part in the Irish Blogger Secret Santa 14. I was also shortlisted for the Blog Awards Ireland, and although I didn’t make it to the final, it was an incredible honour to even make it onto the shortlist so soon after starting my blog. I hope to get to know more people through blogging this year, and attend more events and meetups.
This was a good year for concerts – I saw Beyoncé, in Dublin in March with my mum and my sister. She was someone I wanted to see for ages, and she definitely didn’t disappoint. (I blogged about the experience, which you can read here.) I also had the pleasure of seeing Imelda May live at the Marquee with my Granny and I was incredibly wowed by her – she had such an incredible stage presence! In July I saw Lana Del Rey Live at the Marquee with a few of my friends, and that was another extremely extraordinary experience.
Over the course of 2014, I had a few memorable trips to new places, (memorable for both good and bad reasons.) I travelled to Dublin a few times for reasons I’ve already mentioned, such as blogging, or concerts. I stayed in Baltimore, West Cork for sailing with my Dad, and it was absolutely beautiful.
In March we went on a family holiday to London, which was quite bittersweet, as my Grandad died while we were over there. As my Grandparents were in Spain when it happened, we saw no point in rushing back when there was nothing happening in Cork, so we stayed in London for the rest of the long weekend. We visited Camden Town, where I found a record stand that sold rare records at an unbelievable low price. We had the pleasure of experiencing Warner Bros. Studios, which was amazing. I had been wanting to go there for a while, and it was everything I hoped for and more.
In August we went on a longer family holiday to La Baule, France for two weeks. It was such a beautiful area, and although the weather wasn’t the best, it was still lovely on the beach. We found a little ice cream shop next to the beach called Manuelo’s, where my sister and I spend the whole time buying guaffres, avec chantilly. (waffles with cream) I also got to see places of historical significance in the area, such as the walled city of St.Malo, and the Salt Paludiers, where salt is made. It was a lovely area to visit, one I’d definitely love to visit again.
These are just some of the many things I’ve done this year, I could go on for much more but these were probably the most memorable. I hope to have as many memorable experiences in 2015, and I can’t wait to see what I have to say this time next year.
What have you done this year that was memorable? What are your plans for the coming year?
