Earlier this week I headed up to Dublin and attended some of the Dublin Fashion Festival events, sponsored by Galaxy. While the rain did put a downer on the vibe of some of the outdoor events, it was nonetheless very enjoyable and worth going to!
The first thing I stopped by was the outdoor shows taking place on Grafton Street on Friday. I managed to catch all of Irene O’Brien’s Vintage Workshop. This workshop provided a really good insight into the best spots in Dublin for vintage finds, as well as some of the best ways to wear vintage. One thing in particular that stood out was that it’s not always necessary to channel vintage through your clothes – this can also be done through finding vintage accessories, such as sunglasses, hats, bags and jewellary. Some of the shops featured in this show are Oxfam, Om Diva, Dirty Fabulous, and Jenny Vander so this is where to start if you’re looking for some nice vintage pieces.
The main event that I went to during this festival was the Creative Quarter Dublin Fashion Show with Darren Kennedy. This showcased some of the best fashions and designers in Dublin, across a range of audiences including womenswear, menswear and childrenswear. The show opened with some incredibly cute children modelling some of the current looks available for young girls and boys, and then proceeded to many stunning looks for men and women. The women’s looks included both formal and casual dresses, as well as a bridal segment with some fabulous wedding dresses. Overall, a very enjoyable show!
The following day I headed back into the city where I watched the Etiquette School of Ireland showcase some of their best looks, which also took place at the top of Grafton Street. This show featured some of Dublin’s best presented and groomed – showcasing what is available for those interested in going to the Etiquette School. The looks seen here were also fab – I really enjoyed seeing the women’s looks, which incorporated day and night looks with an element of vintage colour schemes and designs combined with more futuristic looks. Overall, a very impressive standard!
Some of these looks and events definitely left an impression on me and I can’t wait to go shopping to try to recreate and incorporate what I saw!
