As many of you know, the MTV Video Music Awards were on quite recently. As usual, all of our favourites flocked to the read carpet in the many. I’m always intrigued to see who’s wearing what; who’s risks haven’t paid off and who’s have. Today I’m going to ramble a bit about what I though of a few of the fashion choices which stood out to me.
I’m a fan of this look – I think Selena looks very classy in this dress, and I like the way she paired the dark navy colour of the dress with red lipstick. I also like how the dress bears some flesh without going overboard and still manages to have an elegant feel.
Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner:
I’m between two minds about Kim’s outfit choice. I like the pattern on her dress, and I love the shoes she’s paired it with, but I’m not sure how I feel about the plunging neckline – I think it shows that little bit too much. However, I think she manages to pull it off by not overloading it with jewellery.
I’m not a huge fan of Kendall’s outfit – I don’t really like the whole see-through top and bra look, I feel like she’s wearing it for the sake of wearing a bra showing top. The black pants she’s paired with it don’t do anything for it either, the whole thing is just a bit too plain.
Kylie’s outfit is by far my favourite out of the three – the black dress she’s chosen creates a red carpet worthy classiness, and the slit going up one side of the skirt shows off her long legs. This is my favourite from the Kardashian/Jenner clan.
This is another one I’m between two minds about – I think her choice of outfit is ok, but her hair buns make the whole thing look a bit silly. If she had left her hair down I think it would have given the whole outfit a different, more red carpet worthy feel. I really like the black peep-toe heels she’s paired with this outfit though. Also, I have to mention that I think it’s so heartwarming how she used the fact that she won a VMA to make a difference to this homeless man’s life!
I like the dress Demi Lovato wore to the VMAs, I really do, but I’ve definitely seen her wearing nicer, more flattering dresses. I also think that the red purse blends in with the dress a little too much, I didn’t even notice it at first! A black purse would create a much better contrast with her red dress and red lips. All of that said, I still like her look and I think she pulls off the dress well.
I must be honest, I don’t like this at all. I think Taylor Swift looks much nicer when she opts for dresses and skirts. Her shoes are nice, but they’re wasted with this playsuit/ leotard thing. It feels like a bit too much skin, and it isn’t very flattering. She’d gain much more by going for a nice, classy dress.
Nicki Minaj looks great at the moment! This leopard print dress really suits her tanned skin, and the minimal makeup really works with the nude heels and understated, barely there accessories. I would have expected something much tackier from her, but I really like this. I must say, it’s one of my favourites from the event.
I love the design of the dress worn by Iggy Azalea – maybe a different colour would have suited her better, but she still looks good. The shape of the dress suits her figure very well. I like how she’s pulled her hair back also, I think it shows off her facial features well.
So much Beyoncé… Where do I begin?
First of all, her red carpet look was my favourite of the night. Her dress, her hair, her figure, her accessories – it all looked amazing. I love the open toed shoes she paired it with, it all worked so well together. I also love the detail on her dress, she wears it beautifully. The classiest of the classy!
Her performance also has to be mentioned – 14 songs in 15 minutes, who else could have pulled that off? As usual, she killed it.
The third thing I need to say is that moment onstage with Jay-z and Blue Ivy just made my heart melt a little bit. She was so humble getting the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award. She really deserved it! And the “Yeah Mommy” out of Blue Ivy’s mouth – it couldn’t have been any cuter.
What did you think of the fashion at the VMAs? Who was your favourite?
